Bill & Ted Face the Music, the long awaited follow up to 1991’s Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, will begin production soon, and is set to be released in summer 2020.
Announced by lead actors Alex Winter (William "Bill" S. Preston Esq.) and Keanu Reeves (Theodore "Ted” Logan) on Twitter, the film’s release date is August 21, 2020. Hammerstone Studios announced the production is set to begin this summer.
“We want to say thank you to you, the fans, because it looks like we might... actually... hopefully... make a movie this summer: Bill & Ted 3: Face the Music,” said Winter and Reeves in the announcement video. “It is all because of you guys so we owe you a huge debt of gratitude and we wanted to say thank you... and be excellent."
The film will be directed by Galaxy Quest’s Dean Parisot with a screenplay from Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, both of whom wrote the first two Bill & Ted films. Steven Soderbergh will executive produce with John Ryan Jr., Scott Fischer and John Santilli with production from Scott Kroopf, Alex Lebovici and Steve Ponce.
Following the first two films, Bill and Ted have yet to fulfill their rock and roll destiny and "the now middle-aged best friends set out on a new adventure, when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it and bring harmony to the universe."
Bill & Ted Face the Music was announced last year, though its road to production has been a not-so-excellent adventure. The lead actors spoke with IGN about the film back in 2013, with Reeves saying it was closer than ever to being made in 2015. The film continued to hit snags with its script in 2016, and was struggling to secure funding as recently as early 2018. Hover, it looks like most of these hurdles are now behind it, and the film will maybe... actually... hopefully be released in 2020.
