Justin Bieber is testing out some futuristic healing technology.
The pop star, 25, showed fans his new nighttime routine on his Instagram Stories on Sunday, passing his phone off to his wife Hailey Baldwin, 22, so she could document the “Sorry” singer catching some zzz’s inside his new portable hyperbaric therapy tube.
The musician has been struggling lately with his mental health, recently telling fans on Instagram that he’s “just feeling super disconnected and weird … I always bounce back so I’m not worried just wanted to reach out and ask for your guys to pray for me.”
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy isn’t typically used for treating depression, but according to Logan Poudel of Santa Fe Spring, California-based OxyHealth, it has been proven effective for use on sufferers of PTSD.
“It increases the amount of oxygen in the body by double within an hour, which reduces inflammation in the body, including the muscles, joints and brain,” Poudel told Page Six. He added that while “it’s not detrimental” to spend the night inside one of the chambers, “there’s no medical benefit past two hours.”
“Often the people who sleep in them are NFL players,” Poudel continued. “It makes it painless to finally sleep once the pressure is formed. One hour in the unit at pressure is the equivalent of a three-hour nap. So those suffering insomnia due to PTSD or stress finally get to rest and decompress.”
But renting your own tube like the one Bieber has in his suite at the Montage hotel doesn’t come cheap. Poudel estimated that the version the singer has rents for $820 per month, plus shipping and security deposit, and added that a doctor’s prescription is required for both purchase and rental.
